Every family has their yearly traditions at Christmas. We make a turkey every year... that means left-overs... and left over turkey and gravy means turkey dumplings. This recipe came from my granny on my mother's side (great grandmother) but is made every year by my dad. Somedays I will learn to make it so the tradition can continue. But really, he makes them perfectly so why rush to learn? Here is the recipe:
Kidding!
1/2 t salt
2 c flour
4 t baking powder
1 egg
1 c milk
leftover turkey cut into small pieces
leftover gravy
Sift together first three ingredients. Make a well. Add egg. Add milk a little at a time, cut with a knife until knife comes clean. Place gravy and turkey in bottom of dutch oven pan, but not too much gravy! Dip spoon into gravy before spooning up dumplings into pan, make them big! We usually get abut 7 - 8 dumplings. Cook covered for 20 minutes, no peeking! Enjoy.
